About Us

About The Academy

We are a Singapore-based musical arts & performances institute with a passion to develop and promote our culture through music in Singapore and broader ASEAN region. Like many Singapore enterprises, we are designed to be global and digital from the get go.

The institute focuses on three types of activities :

  1. Training to develop skills and inculcate passion for music for the next generation. So far, we trained 50+ students of various age groups learn Carnatic and light music singing.
  2. Collaborations to encourage the local/global music ecosystem. We regularly collaborate on various programs with organizations like Sri Samskrutika Kalasaradhi Singapore, Dwaram Lakshmi Academy of Music Services, Swara Raga Sudha, Swaraarchana, Swaraoke, Vijayeebhava academy etc.  
  3. Performances at local & digital events. Some of our regular and known performances include annual Annamayya Satagalaarchana (100+ singers coming together to sing annamayya keertanas), Swarakalpana Samaradhana, Swara archana and concerts during festivals in temples across Singapore.

About the Founder

Smt. Kapavarapu Vidyadhari is a passionate singer/composer, teacher and a lifelong music learner. Through her parents, she developed love for music from young age. She obtained a solid foundation in classical music (Carnatic Vocals) from renowned gurus like Mdm Lahari KolachelaDr. Seshulatha Kosuru and Vid. N R Prasanth

Even while working as a banker & financial consultant in her early years, she always embraced music as a part of her career. Through the years, she performed at many Singapore & India-based programs, global and online performances. 

As a mother of three living in Singapore, she saw the necessity of developing healthy minds through a strong identity and culture through music. Taking this drive and her passion for music further, she founded Vidya Sangeetam Academy in 2016. She continues to teach and drive multiple initiatives for the Institute. 

Along with running the Academy, she cherishes a few milestones in her lifelong pursuit of music include:   

  • Performing for Lord Venkatewara on the renowned Nadaneerajanam stage at Tirumala, India in January 2023.
  • Developing a new digital platform, Singapore Raga, for Telugu artistes & composers to showcase their works and benefit from those directly. 
  • Conceptualise and moderate a new program, Swarakalpana Samaradhana, consisting performances of original compositions / lyrics by the composers themselves. This program, started in Dec-2020, introduced 130+ artists with 280+ original compositions so far.
  • Working with Telugu Bhagavata Prachara Samithi for uplifting and sustaining Telugu language 
  • Conceptualise, curate and perform at Annamayya Satagalaarchana annual program since 2018, Singapore and online
  • Curate and perform at annual International Bhagavata Jayanthi event since 2017, Singapore and online
  • Teaching in community centres and town councils under government run subsidised music learning for low income communities
  • Light music accolades like a music album published by Planet Galatta (with S P Haricharan), Vasantham Star 2005 Award (Vasantham TV), Oli Star 2005 Award (Star TV, India), childhood performances for the then CM of Andhra Pradesh (1994) and Governor of Andhra Pradesh (1986)
